Commission Process

  • We work together on an idea.

Gather all the thoughts and images you’ve collected for the commission, and send them to me via the submission-form below. Once I’ve reviewed what you’re interested in having me create, I may have some additional questions for you.

And while I do appreciate all submissions that are sent my way, please know that I may not have the bandwidth to work with you on your commission when you send the request.

  • I work on the project.

A deposit of 50% of the total estimated amount for the project will be required before work can begin.

Commissions can sometimes take a couple of months to complete, however market seasons and galleries can impact lead times.

Revisions can be made, but depending on the extent of the revision, an additional deposit is required to continue work on the piece.

  • You receive the finished painting.

Once the project is completed, I ship the finished piece to you.

Before the original work is shipped out, payment of the remaining total of the agreed upon commission price, plus shipping, will be due.

Overview

Thank you for your interest in commissioning me to work on a collectable piece of art.

The amount I charge for each piece is dependent on multiple factors, including but not limited to: the amount of time spent working on the piece across various phases, the number of revisions that were requested during different phases, the extent of changes involved, and/or the materials involved (ie: I can source vintage frames for your piece should you request this).

There are 2 phases that make up the commission process: Sketch Phase, Painting Phase.

Sketch Phase:

This is the phase that involves the collection of information, all the way to the completion of a sketch.

Once you've submitted the Commission Form, I'll have a look over the request and try to reply within one week, barring any conflicts. Should I decide to accept your commission request, I'll reach out to you and confirm that it's something I'll be able to take on.

A 50% deposit is required before any sketching begins.

We can work together on how payment is made, and once payment is received, I'll begin sketching your commission.

During this phase I may provide 1-3 sketches depending on the concepts provided. You may request 1 major change during this phase or provide minor direction/changes before I transfer to the final paper to begin painting.

Images will be provided throughout this process and will be provided to the purchaser.

Major changes during this phase may require a price change and an additional deposit before further work can begin.

Painting Phase:

During this phase I will send a couple of images of the process but very few adjustments can be made.

Once the painting is completed I will send a final photograph of the image and ship after a few days to let all the paint settle.

Shipping fees are not included in the agreed upon commission price.

Before the original work is shipped out, payment for the remaining 50% of the agreed upon commission price, plus shipping, will be due.

Rate Examples

My starting rate minimum is $500 for a 6x8 single figure piece, and an additional $100 for each extra “character”.

If requesting 2 “characters” or more, the size of the piece will automatically be made in 8x10 format, and will be priced at $600 minimum.

I use 300 GSM Cold Press Watercolor Paper and a wide variety of handmade natural watercolor pigments from Greenleaf and Blueberry.

I also offer custom matting, framing, vintage frame sourcing services. These services can be provided for additional fees that can be discussed further upon inquiry.

Please message me at info@maridad.studio to inquire about additional sizing, custom tattoos, or any other custom inquiries.

* Please note that there have been instances where a commission has resonated with me enough to where I've decided to release prints of the commissioned piece as part of my permanent catalogue. If this happens to be the case with something we work on together, I will provide you as the purchaser with a discounted rate on the entire commission, should I decide to sell print copies of the commission you are requesting.
